The Scilla bifolia has pretty star-shaped flowers that are a soft blue in colour. They make a great alternative to bluebells in a shady or wooded area and are more low-lying, adding to the attractiveness of the woodland floor. It is in an early spring flower. Simply dig a hole about 10 cm deep, put the bulbs in and cover with soil then water.
